How to write a website brief that moves your project forward

A useful website brief makes decisions easier. Here is what to prepare before you ask for a proposal.

Start with the business goal

Describe what the website should help people do: send a qualified enquiry, understand your services, or buy a product. Pick a primary goal so design decisions have a clear direction.

Describe your audience

List the people you want to reach, the questions they bring, and the information they need before contacting you. Include the countries and languages you intend to support.

Gather content and constraints

Prepare your logo, existing copy, product details and any verified project examples. Share your preferred launch window, budget range and who can approve content.

Define the scope together

List essential pages and features separately from future ideas. Ask the developer to explain hosting, ongoing maintenance, ownership and handover in the proposal.
