WebP Converter
Turn a PNG screenshot, transparent graphic or JPEG photo into a WebP image. Choose the quality, inspect the result and keep the version that works for your website.
How to use it.
- Choose or drop one PNG or JPEG image.
- Set a quality level. A higher value usually keeps more detail and creates a larger file.
- Convert, compare the original and output, then download the WebP file.
A practical example.
Preparing a transparent product cut-out for a shop? Convert the PNG, then inspect the edges against the checkerboard preview. For a JPEG photograph, check faces and fine textures before replacing the original.

WebP supports transparency and both lossy and lossless encoding. This tool uses your browser’s quality-based canvas encoder: it does not provide a guaranteed lossless mode, even at quality 100. PNG and JPEG searches lead to this one converter because the output workflow is the same.
Know the limits.
One static PNG or JPEG, up to 15 MiB, 16 million pixels and 8192 pixels per side. Animated PNG is rejected. Dimensions are preserved. Metadata and color profiles may change or be removed. A WebP file can be larger than the original; compare the measured sizes. Keep your source file.
File processing runs locally in this browser tab. Normal website resources still load from the site. Reset clears the selected image and result. Browser extensions and your device’s security are outside this tool’s control.
Website privacy policy →Common questions.
Does PNG to WebP keep transparency?
Transparent pixels are carried into the WebP canvas output when your browser supports WebP encoding. Check the checkerboard preview and downloaded result; JPEG sources have no transparent channel.
Can I convert JPG and JPEG files?
Yes. Both extensions identify JPEG images. The file signature and successful decoding determine acceptance, rather than its filename alone.
Is WebP always better than PNG?
No. PNG can suit sharp diagrams and small flat graphics. WebP may reduce photo or screenshot bytes, but inspect fine text and compare your actual result.
What if my browser cannot export WebP?
The tool checks the actual encoded format and reports an error instead of downloading a PNG with a WebP extension. Try a current browser with WebP canvas encoding.
